National Learning Management System
The National Learning Management System (NLMS) is a way for all NHS employees with a staff record on ESR to access free of charge elearning courses written for the NHS.
The development of the NLMS is a joint initiative between the Department of Health, NHS Connecting for Health, NHS Core Learning Unit, e-Learning for Healthcare and the Electronic Staff Record Programme (ESR), which has introduced elearning capabilities into the Oracle Learning Management (OLM) and Self Service modules of ESR. The functionality is fully integrated into the ESR solution.

Delivery of national elearning content to all employees with a staff record on ESR, free of charge

NHS organisations to deliver local elearning courses through ESR

Training teams to manage elearning course delivery in addition to traditional offerings, through on e single point of access

Remote access for employees to national and local elearning courses, creating a flexible way of learning to suit individual learners

Tracking of users progress through each course and the ability to record results of tests and other data in ESR against the portable employee record

A consistent approach and delivery mechanism for local and national elearning content across the NHS.
How to implement the NLMS in your organisation
The NLMS is designed to be flexible and can fit in with the elearning strategies that local NHS organisations may already have in place. Depending on organisations needs, there are a number of implementation models to choose from.
